“Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” – Winston Churchill

Chris Norton became paralyzed while playing football as a freshman for Luther College in 2010. Though doctors told him there was a 3 percent chance he’d ever move his legs again, Norton underwent a year of intense physical therapy to be able to stand. Over the weekend, Norton not only graduated from Luther, but he also proposed to his girlfriend Emily Summers.

Originally, Norton couldn’t move anything from the neck down because two of his vertabrae had been fractured, but says “I’ve been getting stronger and stronger and I really want to show everyone how far I’ve come,” Norton explains in the video above, which he posted to his YouTube channel. “You’ve just got to go out there and make it happen.” He says that he set the goal of being able to walk across the stage at graduation over a year ago. Watch the video to see if Norton achieves his goal.
